Round and round we go. Any bets on how long until we get to Hurricane Omar? Check out my latest Time.com story about Why Disasters are Getting Worse. (Hint: It’s not because of climate change. Not mostly, anyway.)

Consider the difference between Haiti and the Dominican Republic on the same island. Haiti gets flooded and lives killed and these make the news. But not the DR.
The DR still has lots of forests. Haiti doesn’t as they’ve been chopped down for firewood. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/16/AR2008021602511_pf.html
