See also another perspective at http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20100301/wl_csm/284017 suggesting that the reports of looting are overblown. While most scientific research on post-disaster looting uses empirical evidence to show that post-disaster looting is the exception, rather than the rule, most (but not all) of that evidence comes from one discipline (sociology) and case studies from one country (the USA). So we need to be careful of extrapolating to all circumstances while noting that there is still plenty of work needed on the topic before definite conclusions could be drawn.

Is there an archive of the video would like to see it as I am writing a book on the disasters that hit our planet this year and would be great for documentation.

Yes people in Haiti suffered really bad too. But this incident in Chile is very depressing. Have you guys seen the footage? One can’t believe how inhuman we, the so-called civilized human race, can become sometimes. The poor people were already struck a great blow by the Chilean earthquake. On top of that all that looting. So poor conduct.

Once we realize that everything including us has to end, we wont be that cruel anymore. I don’t know when we see other people suffering why don’t we feel this could have happened to us. This sounds so depressing. As mature human minds, we have to bring changes in our societies. Talking is easy but to implement this is difficult.

I wish the world was not so bad to other people. Why don’t we care for others? Don’t we know that this could happen to anyone. I hope these people get some help from the officials.
