Men and Floods

Why do more men die in floods? I just did a story for Time.com on this particular mystery. Year after year, far more men than women die in storms. And in this year’s epic floods, men make up about three-quarters of the fatalities, according to my latest count.
The upside is that men can learn something from women and do better.

The basic difference between man and woman is the Stooge Gene. This gene is, of course, named after The Three Stooges. If you put 100 men and 100 women in a theater and play a Stooge movie, 99 men and one woman will be laughing hysterically and 99 women and one man will be thinking, “This isn’t funny – it’s stupid.”
What is responsible for the Demolition Derby? Chainsaws? Firecrackers? Rodeo? Monster Trucks? Russian Roulette? Professional Wrestling? Motorcycles? Bullfighting? NASCAR? Roadrunner cartoons? Married With Children? Chewing Tobacco? The Stooge Gene.
You’ll never hear a woman say, “ LIGHT IT AND RUN!” or “HEY Y’ALL, WATCH THIS!” or “BETCHA I CAN TOO OUTRUN THAT DOG!”
Why do men drown in a flood? The Stooge Gene. Why is this so hard to understand?
